The powder can be used to make sandalwood essential oil for at-home aromatherapy.

SANDALWOOD HAS ANTISEPTIC AND ASTRINGENT PROPERTIES

Sandalwood has been known to calm the pitta dosha in Ayurvedic texts suggesting that it has cooling properties. It is also a known astringent that causes contractions of soft tissue that make your skin smooth by reducing the appearance of pores which also makes it a great ingredient for aftershave.  Its antiseptic and astringent properties allow it to effectively cleanse the skin form dirt, bacteria or impurity that may be clogging your skin which in turn will leave you clear, healthy and glowing skin.

SANDALWOOD FOR EXFOLIATION AND INFLAMMATION

Sandalwood has mild exfoliating properties that may lighten your tan and any dark spots or scars on your skin. Its anti-inflammatory properties that soothe sunburnt skin while having a cooling effect that reduce the redness caused by a sunburn.Its strong anti-inflammatory property also aids in healing acne and clogged pores. The active compound alpha-santalol prevents acne-causing bacteria.Sandalwood powder can also be used with a carrier oil to soften skin and its regular use can give you bright and glowing skin.

HOW TO USE

DIY Sandalwood essential oil

Essential oils in the market sometimes have ingredients that may concern you and a way around this problem is to make your own essential oil with this easy recipe:

You will need a dark glass bottle, 1 cup of olive oil or any other carrier oil that you like, 8 grams of sandalwood powder and an oven safe pot. Mix all of these ingredients together and put them in the pot. Place the pot into the oven at 200 degrees Fahrenheit and let the mixture cook for about 3 hours making sure to give it an occasional stir. Use a cheesecloth to strain the mixture once it has cooled down, transfer the oil to a bottle and store it in a cool, dry place.

Make sure to use the oil within 6 months and add in a couple of drops of vitamin E oil to elongate the life of this oil.

You can add just a drop of this oil into your normal moisturizing routine for enhanced benefits. You can further use these in masks, lotions and cleansers.

Mask to remove sun tan

Mix 1 tablespoon of yogurt with 1 tablespoon of sandalwood powder, add a tablespoon of cucumber juice, a teaspoon of honey and some lemon juice. Apply the mask and leave it on for approximately 15 minutes and then wash it off.

Mask for dark spots

Take a tablespoon full of sandalwood powder and coconut oil. Mix well and massage it into your skin. You may leave this on overnight. 

Mask for acne

Mix 1 tablespoon of sandalwood powder with a tablespoon of milk. Add in a pinch of turmeric powder and apply an even layer on your skin. Keep the mask on for 30 minutes and wash it off with cold water.
